Cube World gave the sense to mesh the two in a real way to be able to bring together the procedurally generated worlds of Minecraft along with all the world destruction and mesh them with the questing and adventuring facets of Zelda. It was able to achieve all of this while still only being a couple of weeks into the development cycle. Amazing to say the least.Unfortunately there was clearly still a lot regarding the game we didnt know like whether or not Minecraft and Zelda were inspirations when the overall game was supposed to acquire released as well as just what the planned distribution channel was to the game.Luckily the games developer Wolfram von Funck got a hold of me to reply to a couple of questions. EnjoyCan you explain just a little bit about yourself as a game developer and what youve done previouslyIm 32 years of age are now living in Germany and have programmed games and engines 50 % of my life. Besides that Im also thinking about drawing and digital art. I have studied computer science and after receiving my PhD I started my own, personal small graphics software company (www.picroma.com). Game programming is still my hobby and Cube World is my first serious game project.Your game Cube World looks remarkably just like a Minecraft/Zelda hybrid. Was this your intention What was your inspiration behind the gameMaking a hybrid of those games wasnt my intention from your beginning but the idea developed over time. Both Minecraft and Zelda were definitely big inspirations for me.What I like about Minecraft could be the fact that a procedurally generated world made up of cubes allows a single developer to create a full 3D game using a huge world to explore. You have no idea need level editors modeling software or perhaps a team of artists. Furthermore programming a game engine based on voxels is undoubtedly easier than the usual full-blown 3D engine like CryEngine or UnrealEngine on the expense of realism which brings me on the next inspirations I love games like Zelda Landstalker Secret of Mana and Final Fantasy. As a child Ive always dreamt of earning such a game by myself. So the following step for Cube World ended up being to translate the typical JRPG pixel art style (big head spiky hair etc.) into the planet of voxels. Thats what I did and a Minecraft/Zelda baby came beyond itHow long has Cube World held it's place in development forI started the project this season on May 25. I was captivated with the project right from the start so that it reached a fairly mature state already from a couple of weeks (including some sleepless nights). What form of gameplay are you currently planning Cube World Questing Crafting RPG elementsId like that will put a powerful focus on questing so theres always something meaningful to do. As the globe is procedurally generated the quests will likely be procedurally generated too. This saves me from scripting a huge selection of quests along with the players get new tasks all of the time. Another focus needs to be the exploration in the Cube World also as character advancement in the typical RPG style by skills and equipment. Combat is planned to become HacknSlash-like and fast-paced. There will be no crafting or mining. The game seems to be set up for multiplayer. Are you planningon this being primarily a multiplayer gameI have built-in multiplayer right from your start in order to avoid complications in the future development. I begin to determine the game as both single player and multiplayer game. This could be somewhat ways off but have you thought about how youre likely to release/distribute the game Are you contemplating the same process as Minecraft where players bought the Alpha versionI do not have any concrete plans yet. I cant even estimate when the sport will be finished. However the Steam platform seems attractive to me.Anything else you'll have the ability to imagine to share with usI had never expected this type of huge feedback for my little game project. It all started over at TIGForums (forums.tigsource.com) where I just designed to share my project along with other indie developers to have feedback and inspirations from like-minded people. I recommend it to other indie developers you receive a whole lot of constructive critique there.Well be keeping close tabs for this game within the future mainly because it develops.
